The Lawton Police
Department, Special Operations Section is supervised by Lieutenant Charlie Whitis,
the unit is composed of detectives and two narcotics detector dogs. The
entire unit works together on almost all operations, but the detectives are
assigned primary responsibilities. Some are assigned specifically to
narcotics investigations, some are assigned to vice investigations.
Vice investigations
include undercover prostitution operations, the use of minor agents to make
controlled purchases of beer and liquor from bars and taverns and the
enforcement of the Adult Business Ordinance. Special Operations detectives are also
called up regularly to assist the Criminal Investigations Division in
locating suspects and conducting surveillance on dangerous suspects and/or
unusually high crime incidents such as a specific first degree burglary, car
burglary, etc.. Special Operations detectives work
regularly in conjunction with "Crime
Stoppers" and "Drug Busters"
utilizing information provided to this program to make numerous arrests and
seizures. |
